The Afghan Hound isn't just known for its furry coat and love of lying on the sofa. There's an athlete behind the glamorous fur and it's unlikely any of you will be hopping off the couch to run shopping for chips at 40mph. Afghans are among the top five fastest dogs in the world and can easily chase a gazelle through mountainous terrain. What truly sets Afghan hounds apart from most other breeds is their hip placement. Their hips are positioned much higher than in any other dog, and the distance between their hips is also unusually wide, allowing them to move with greater ease and swiftness. That is why Afghan hounds can navigate the twisted, edgy landscapes of Afghanistan.
